KAISER LIBRARY
Collections of a single man, Kaiser Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, adorn this palatial building near Thamel and opposite the Royal Palace. An ardent intellectual, Kaiser Shumsher (1891- 1964) built a library boasting of 35,000 books, of which only 10,000 were added after his death. The repertoire of books in Kaiser Library covers as unrelated topics as astrology and law, with history, hunting, travelogue, ancient religion, and philosophers in between.
The oldest book in the collection is a Sanskrit handwritten manual of tantra, the art of mysticism. belies ed to be at least 1,000 years old. Open daily except Saturdays and holidays, from 10 am to 4 pm. No entrance fee
