ST. KITTS - WEST INDIES

A little off the beaten track St. Kitts forms pat of the smallest country in the western hemisphere. There are ancient colonial forts and sugar mills to discover warm minds for windsurfing, fantastic marine life and next door the sister island of nevis.

The island of St. Kitts, part of the twin-island nation of St Kitts & Nevis offers a gracious, unhurried way of life and a surprisingly diverse range of cultural and recreational activities. Perfect sandy beaches and warm clear waters surround a treasure trove of historic sites. exhilarating music, colours and food. More adventurous visitors can continue on into rich tropical forests and up cloud-topped volcanic peaks. The popular Frigate Bay close to the capital Basseterre lays host to most of the islands tourist accommodation and is surrounded by both the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. Daytime temperatures reach more than 86 F (30 C year round. This makes the less-crowded summer months, June to August the best time to go.

A scenic train ride along the tracks used to transport sugar from the plantation estates. Opened October 2002. Duration 3 hours 10 minutes. Book locally in resort.

• St Kitts Island Tour :
