Agra was the capital of the Mughal Empire in the 16th and 17th century and its significance as a political center ended with eh transfer of the capital to Delhi in 1634 AD by Shah Jahan. But its architectural wealth 'TAJ MAHAL' has secured its place on the International Map. Agra is also known for its superb inlay work on marble and soapstone.

Taj Mahal
The inimitable poem in white marble, one of the seven modern wonders of the world, the finest expression of love of Emperor Shah Jahan for his queen Mumtaz is located on the banks of the Yamuna river here. The construction of the Taj had commenced in 1631 AD and had ended in 1653 AD. Workers were gathered from all over the country and from central Asia. About 20,000 people were recruited to translate this dream into reality. The man architect was Isa Khan who was brought from Iran. Taj will remain a symbol of eternal love. Shah Jahan was subsequently buried and reunited finally with his beloved Mumtaz mahal.

Agra Fort
Built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 Ad the fort is a masterpiece of design and construction. The fort houses places, courts, mosques, baths, gardens and pavilions. Places of visit are - red sandstone Jehangir Mahal built by Akbar for his Hindu queen Jodhabai; Moti Masjid, Diwane-i-Am; Diwane-i-Khas and Musamman Burj where the Emperor Shah Jahan died in imprisonment.

Itmad-Ud-Daulah's Tomb
It was built by Empress Noor Jahan, in memory of her father, Ghisa-ud-Din Beg in 1622-25 AD. This ornate tomb is considered as a precursor of Taj Mahal.
