Surfing in Maldives
Surfing in Maldives is world famous. Maldives is a surfing destination for surfers from all over the world. O’Neil Deep Blue surfing contests are held in the Maldives. Surfing enthusiasts are always looking for new and adventurous challenges.
The outer atolls of the Maldives with the still, un-surfed waves could be the ideal location. Laamu Atoll and Huvadhu Atoll are separated by the 1 ˝ Degree Channel way south and with the Roaring Forties hitting these atolls with enormous strength create the best waves in the Maldives.
Although March, April and August to November is said to be the best time to surf at which time you will find great waves near Meemu Atoll, Huwadhoo Atoll waves are best surfed during north east monsoon from December to March with the incredible surf in Fiyori island, the heaviest wave in the island compared by many international surfers to those found in the South Pacific.
There are various other famous surfing sites in the Maldives, some of them are;

* Honkey’s (Thamburudhoo (Uninhabited Island), Eastern Reef of North Male’ Atoll)
* Tomb Stones (Thamburudhoo - Uninhabited Island), Adjacent to ‘Sultans’ Eastern Reef of North Male’ Atoll)
