RishikeshThe Himalayas have been a symbol of man's spiritual quest from time immemorial. This tour follows a traditional pilgrimage route which threads its way along the Ganges and the Alakananda rivers through a number of sacred towns in Garhwal and the Kumoan Hills.
It includes some walking and pony-trekking and seven days camping, when we are looked after by our own porters and cooks, who produce delicious meals to our specifications. All the trekking is light, and only an average degree of fitness is required. We shall be travelling off the beaten track in parts of India virtually unvisited by Westerners, through some of the most stunningly beautiful and dramatic landscapes: wooded valleys, sparkling mountain streams, wild skylines.
We spend time in the area of India where Krishna is believed to have lived, visit remote shrines and ashrams and stay in a hill station and a wildlife park. We camp in meadows and by rivers, eating out under starry skies and waking to see the majestic peaks of mountains like Nada Devi and Trishula bathed in the early morning light.
