Golden Temple, AmritsarAmritsar called the Holy Pool of Nectar is also known by the name of the city of bloodshed and massacre after the famous Jallianwala Bagh. Founded by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das Amritsar is the most revered place of the Sikhs and in due course of time recreated itself as an industrially developed city. Several textile and machinery parts units, manufacturing firms apart from agriculture holds key to its economy in the present days.
Known historically all over the world for the Jallianwala massacre, imposed upon by the Britishers on the innocent Indians where thousands dies in front of the fiery bullets of the British troops. The Golden Temple
The most important and the holy pilgrimage center of the Sikhs, the Golden temple is also known as Hari Mandir Sahib that stands as a symbol of spiritual tradition of the Sikhs The extraordinary temple has been a source of inspiration for the Sikhs from generations and is beautifully preserved and coated with Gold. It was the first and the foremost holy shrine where Sikhs from all over come to pay their obeisance. Guru Arjan Sahib laid the foundation of the temple by the Muslim saith Hazrat Mian Mir of Lahore. Laid open from four sides the architecture of the Golden temple represents a harmony between the Hindu and Muslim type of construction and is considered one of the best specimen of the world.
Jallianwala Bagh
The once blood smeared Jallianwala Bagh is well known in history for the massacre of thousands of peoples during the British rule in India. British commander, General Dyer opened fire on innocent people killing the masses without even sparing the children and the babies on the unfateful day of 13th April 1919. The day has been marked in red in the history of India. The place is now a national monument and a memorial with its walls bearing the bullet marks of the tragedy.
Ram Bagh
Akal Takht, AmritsarThe exotic garden place used to be the summer palace of the erst while Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the city of Amritsar. The garden surrounding houses the Darshani Deorhi, a magnum opus with its outstanding architectural splendour. A grand architectural museum after the name of Maharaja Ranjit Singh portrays unique oil paintings, miniatures, coins, weapons and objects relating to the Sikh period.
Durgiana Temple
The temple created in the front side of the Lohagarh gate of the old city is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is a centre of pilgrimage for the Hindus.
Akal Takht
The sacred Akal Takht is built of a unique and noble structure spread out like the outer court of the piazza of Saint Marco in Venice. The cantilever projection is of the type of semi-circular platform and expands onto a large square below. The magnificent throne of Akal is placed in a highly dramatised Durbar hall larger in size than by any Mughal Emperor in Delhi or Amritsar.
Govindgarh Fort
Constructed in the early part of the19th century designed on his own by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the fort is equipped with special defensive system against artillery attacks of the enemy. The fort was built as a preventive measure since the place was frequently attacked when Punjab was still open to depredations of the Afghan hordes. The fort is now protected under the supervision of the paramilitary forces. Some of the few other important prominent attractions of the city are Baba Atal Rai Tower, Ram Bagh garden, Fatehabad Mosque, Tarn Taran, Harike Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary, Wagha Border.

Hall Bazaar is the main shopping arcade of Amritsar selling products, like Electronics goods, Ready made Garments, Handicrafts, Ornaments and Bookshops.
