(135 km from Jodhpur) is an impressive town and was granted to Raja Amar
Singh Rathore by Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan. The historic Nagaur Fort houses
splendid palace, temple and palatial mansions. Moti Mahal, Badal Mahal, Hawa
Mahal are splendid palaces within the fort. The courtyard has painted walls,
adorned with some exquisite frescoes and lovely murals which are a blend of
the Persian and the typlical Nagaur Style. Nagaur's temples have decorated
walls and entrances, ornate with beautiful paintings depicting various
episodes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
Nagaur is the
venue for annual cattle fair held in January - February. During the four day
festival, the town is thronged by cows, bullocks, oxen and camels
accompanied by turbaned sellers and buyers. Cock and bull fights, camel
races fold dances and music enhance the excitement of the fair.
